Neben der Sherry Oak Serie, wo ich bereits den 12jährigen mit 43% verkostet habe, gibt es als weitere Reihen mit Altersangabe noch Double Cask, wo amerikanische und europäische Sherryfässern verwendet werden, auch Triple Cask. Bei dieser Range kommen neben den auch bei Double Cask eingesetzten Sherryfässern aus amerikanischer und europäischer Eiche zusätzlich Ex-Bourbon-Fässer zur Anwendung.
Und den mit 12 Jahren jüngsten aus der Triple Cask-Serie habe ich letztens im Glas gehabt. Der Single Malt ist ungefärbt, jedoch ist er kühlgefiltert, wahrscheinlich damit er mit Eis genossen nicht trüb wird. Die Alkoholstärke beträgt nur 40% und ist damit hervorragend für Einsteiger geeignet.
Aussehen
Helles Gold
Nase
Gleich zu Beginn eine recht fruchtbetonte Nase! Helles grünes und gelbes Obst wie Äpfel und Birnen, aber auch Anzeichen von Zuckermelone, Marillen und etwas Saft von Mandarinen und Zitronen lässt sich hier gut aufschlüsseln. Zusätzlich gibt es einen süßen Blütenhonig mit Zitronenzesten zusammen mit einem warmen Kuchenteig - ein leckerer Streuselobstkuchen. Im Hintergrund wird es mit ein paar Minuten Standzeit recht würzig mit einer dezenten Pfeffernote. Dies scheint von den verwendeten Fässern zu kommen. Von den Sherryfässern ist jetzt im Geruch eher weniger zu bemerken.
Geschmack
Der Malt startet mit einem weichen, nahezu sanft anmutenden Mundgefühl. Zu der sofort einsetzenden honigsüßen Note gesellt sich überraschend schnell eine deutliche würzige Pfeffer- oder auch Ingwerschärfe zum Geschmackserlebnis dazu. Ein wenig Vanille und etwas vom in der Nase vorher erkennbaren Obst ist, wenn auch nicht mehr so deutlich, noch vorhanden. Die Eiche übernimmt hier deutlicher das Kommando. Nachdem der erste würzige Anstoß verklungen ist, kommen leichte Anklänge von Leder und Tabak zum Vorschein. Dies könnte noch von den verwendeten Sherryfässern herrühren. Trotz des geringen Alkoholgehaltes ist das Geschmacksprofil nicht flach und durchaus ordentlich.
Abgang
Das Finish begleiten die Leder- und Tabak-Aromen sowie eine immer deutlichere Trockenheit und etwas Bitterkeit, die aber die Intensität eines „Kleinen Braunen“ nicht übersteigt. Insgesamt ist der Abgang eher von kurz bis wohlwollend mittellanger Dauer.
Fazit
Den Fruchtkorb in der Nase finde ich recht sympathisch und anregend. Auch die malzigen Noten, die einem Kuchenteig nahe kommen und zusammen mit dem Obst und der Süße und Vanille einen Fruchtstreuselkuchen vorgaukeln. Im Geschmack ist von dieser Fruchtigkeit jedoch eher weniger zu schmecken. Hier übernehmen recht flott die Eichenfässer und der Holzeinfluss. Die typischen Aromen von Sherryreifung suche ich eher vergeblich, mal vom dezenten Leder- und Tabakeinschlag im Mund abgesehen. Der Preis passt leider überhaupt nicht zum Gesamtergebnis. Wenn hier nicht Macallan auf dem Etikett stehen würde, würde der Preis von € 80,- bis € 90,- nie funktionieren. Für einen netten kleinen Schluck nebenher beim Ansehen eines 007 James Bond Films ist er sicherlich gut geeignet.

In addition to the Sherry Oak series, where I have already tasted the 12-year-old with 43%, there is another series with an age statement, Double Cask, where American and European sherry casks are used, also called Triple Cask. In this range, ex-bourbon casks are used in addition to the American and European oak sherry casks used in Double Cask.
And the youngest of the Triple Cask series, 12 years old, was in my glass the other day. The single malt is uncoloured, but it is chill-filtered, probably to prevent it from becoming cloudy when enjoyed with ice. The alcohol strength is only 40%, making it excellent for beginners.

Light gold
Nose
Quite a fruity nose right from the start! Bright green and yellow fruits like apples and pears, but also signs of sugar melon, apricots and some juice from tangerines and lemons can be broken down well here. In addition, there is a sweet floral honey with lemon zest along with a warm cake batter - a delicious crumble fruit cake. In the background, with a few minutes of standing time, it becomes quite spicy with a subtle pepper note. This seems to come from the casks used. There is rather less of the sherry casks in the smell now.
Taste
The malt starts with a soft, almost gentle mouthfeel. The immediate honey-sweet note is surprisingly quickly joined by a distinct spicy pepper or ginger heat to the taste experience. A little vanilla and some of the fruit that was recognisable in the nose before is still present, although not as clearly. The oak takes over more clearly here. After the initial spicy kick has faded, light hints of leather and tobacco emerge. This could still come from the sherry casks used. Despite the low alcohol content, the flavour profile is not flat and quite decent.
Finish
The finish is accompanied by the leather and tobacco flavours as well as an increasingly obvious dryness and some bitterness, which however does not exceed the intensity of a "little brown". Overall, the finish is rather short to benevolently medium in duration.
Conclusion
I find the basket of fruit on the nose quite likeable and stimulating. Also the malty notes, which come close to a cake batter and together with the fruit and sweetness and vanilla suggest a fruit crumble cake. In the taste, however, there is rather less of this fruitiness. Here, the oak barrels and the wood influence take over quite quickly. I search in vain for the typical aromas of sherry maturation, apart from the discreet leather and tobacco impact in the mouth. Unfortunately, the price does not match the overall result at all. If it didn't say Macallan on the label, the price of € 80,- to € 90,- would never work. For a nice little sip on the side while watching a 007 James Bond film, it is certainly well suited.
