Talisker 18y

 

Whiskybase

Nachdem ich das letzte Wochenende mit den letzten Tropfen in der Flasche vom Dark Storm verbracht habe, war mir danach meine Whiskyreise mit dem 18y von Talisker fortzusetzen. Bei diesem Insel-Malt kommen jeweils Ex-Bourbon und Sherry-Fässer mit mindestens 18 Jahren Alter zum Einsatz. Das genaue Mischungsverhältnis, also wieviele Ex-Bourbon und Sherry-Fässer für das Vatting verwendet werden ist genauso unbekannt, wie die Art der Sherry-Fässer. Abgefüllt ist der Volljährige mit den bei Talisker gern gesehenen 45,8% Alkohol.

Nase & Aussehen
Talisker färbt leider, darum gehe ich diesmal weniger auf die Farbe vom Whisky ein - ein helles Gold wäre es. Eine schöne Anzahl an öligen Schlieren sind am Glasrand erkennbar. Sofort maritimen Einfluss, Jod und Salzgischt in der Nase. Dann leichte Vanille und eine cremige Süße wie bei Milchkaramellbonbons. Reife Zitronen- und Orangennote - wie Orangenlimonade. Überraschend wenig Rauch, nur ein Hauch der die anderen Aromen unterstützt. Mit etwas Ruhe im Glas kommt der Sherryfasseinfluss mehr zur Geltung. Rote Beerenfruchtigkeit, kombiniert mit Hasel- und Pekannüssen. Der Rauch wird nun auch eine Spur intensiver. Leichte Assoziationen zu Highland Park durch Heidekräuter in der Nase. Interessant

Geschmack
Er beginnt sogleich mit einem sehr öligen Mundgefühl. Deutlich mehr Rauch und Torf als in der Nase. Weiterhin reitet er die maritime Schiene mit Salz und Seetang. Eine leichte, nicht allzu intensive, rote Pfeffernote ist unterschwellig die gesamte Zeit im Mundraum präsent. Die Süße ist weiterhin vorhanden. Die Fruchtaromen wandeln sich in Orangen- und Zitronenschalen mit einer zusätzlichen leichten Bitternote und einer sehr angenehmen Würzigkeit.

Abgang
Die Bitter- und die Öligkeit vom Geschmack setzen sich auch im Finish nahtlos fort. Rauch und Torf sind ebenfalls weiterhin prägend. Die Würzigkeit, zusammen mit dem Rauch erzeugt Assoziationen von Bootsplanken im Salzwasser. Lange ist der Abgang, getragen vom Rauch.

Fazit
Der gefällt gut! Kein Komplexitätsmonster, jedoch ist er alles, nur nicht langweilig. Sehr schönes Wechselspiel zwischen der maritimen Seite und der fruchtig/süßen Komponente in der Nase. Im Mund dann noch ergänzend durch mehr Rauch und Torf. Die Talisker nachgesagte Chillinote im Geschmack konnte ich beim Volljährigen nicht so dominant feststellen, für mich war es ein angenehmer roter, aromatischer Pfeffer. Die Kombi im Mund und Abgang vom Rauch und der Würze sind sehr nice. Für mich ein klarer Kaufkandidat.

After spending the last weekend with the last drops in the bottle of Dark Storm, I felt like continuing my whisky journey with the 18y from Talisker. This island malt uses ex-bourbon and sherry casks with at least 18 years of age. The exact mixing ratio, i.e. how many ex-bourbon and sherry casks are used for vatting, is just as unknown as the type of sherry casks. The full year old is bottled with 45.8% alcohol, which is very welcome at Talisker.

Nose & Appearance
Talisker unfortunately colours, so I'll go less into the colour of the whisky this time - a light gold would be it. A nice number of oily streaks are visible around the rim of the glass. Immediate maritime influence, iodine and salt spray on the nose. Then light vanilla and a creamy sweetness like milk caramel sweets. Ripe lemon and orange notes - like orange lemonade. Surprisingly little smoke, just a hint supporting the other flavours. With a little rest in the glass, the sherry barrel influence comes more to the fore. Red berry fruitiness, combined with hazelnuts and pecans. The smoke also becomes a little more intense now. Slight associations with Highland Park through heather herbs in the nose. Interesting

Taste
It starts immediately with a very oily mouthfeel. Clearly more smoke and peat than in the nose. It continues to ride the maritime rail with salt and seaweed. A light, not too intense, red pepper note is subliminally present in the mouth the whole time. The sweetness is still present. The fruit flavours turn into orange and lemon peel with an additional slight bitter note and a very pleasant spiciness.

Finish
The bitterness and oiliness from the taste continue seamlessly into the finish. Smoke and peat also continue to be prominent. The spiciness, together with the smoke, creates associations of boat planks in salt water. The finish is long, carried by the smoke.

Conclusion
This one is good! Not a complexity monster, but it is everything but boring. Very nice interplay between the maritime side and the fruity/sweet component in the nose. In the mouth it is complemented by more smoke and peat. I couldn't detect the chilli note in the taste, which is said to be present in Talisker, so dominantly in the fully matured, for me it was a pleasant red, aromatic pepper. The combination of smoke and spice in the mouth and finish is very nice. For me, a clear candidate for purchase.
