Dieser Rum ist die sechste Abfüllung aus der Exceptional Cask Serie aus der Foursquare Destillerie auf Barbados. Er wurde 2018 als Supreme Champion der International Spirits Challenge ausgezeichnet. Bei dieser Einzelfassabfüllung wurden Pot-Still- und Column-Still-Rums miteinander vermischt und lagerte danach für 12 Jahr in Ex-Bourbon Fässern.
Der Blend wurde ohne Zucker und Farbstoffzugabe mit fassstarken 59% Alkohol in insgesamt 12.000 Flaschen abgefüllt. Von den insgesamt 12.000 Flaschen kamen je 6.000 Stück nach Europa und die USA.
Aussehen

Nase
Kräftiger pfeffriger, leicht alkoholischer Antritt zu Beginn in der Nase - verfliegt sehr rasch. Danach folgen Aromen nach braunem karamellisiertem Zucker, Kokosnuss, Vanille, Rosinen, Muskatnuss, Zimt, und die würzige Eiche. Alle Geruchsnoten sind sehr harmonisch miteinander verwoben. Komplettiert wird das Duftbouquet durch getrocknete Bananenchips mit braunem Karamell. Mit mehr Zeit im Glas reduziert sich der Alkoholstich immer mehr.
Geschmack
Schöner kräftiger, vollmundig, cremiger Antritt der mit einer leckeren dezenten Süße mit Karamell und eingelegten Rosinen aufwartet. Kokosnuss und Vanille mit den Bananenchips aus der Nase und Zimt zeigen sich nach der süßen Note. Angenehme Würzigkeit der Eichenfässer, leichte Eukalyptusnote. Alkohol ist gut eingebunden, im Mund ist von Pfeffer oder Ingwerschärfe nichts mehr zu merken.
Abgang
Schön wärmend, kräftig. Die Kokosnuss, zusammen mit der Eiche und den Rosinen sowie dem Muskat sind weiterhin dominant. Leichte bittere Aspekte gegen Ende hin mit einer leichten Trockenheit hinten am Gaumen. Mittel bis langes Finish.
Fazit
Toller Barbados Rum. Leckeres Aromenspiel in einer perfekten Harmonie. Genauso muss Rum schmecken. Lässt sich trotz Fassstärke gut pur trinken, ein paar wenige Tropfen Wasser stören jedoch nicht. Ich weiß, warum Barbados und im Speziellen Foursquare zu meinen Favoriten bei Rumnationen und -brennereien gehört. Bin ich froh, dass ich eine Flasche von diesem Traumnektar noch habe.

This rum is the sixth bottling from the Exceptional Cask Series from the Foursquare distillery in Barbados. It was awarded Supreme Champion of the International Spirits Challenge in 2018. This single cask bottling blended pot still and column still rums and then aged for 12 years in ex-bourbon casks.
The blend was bottled without sugar and colouring at a strong 59% alcohol in a total of 12,000 bottles. Of the total 12,000 bottles, 6,000 each were shipped to Europe and the USA.

Appearance
Amber.
Nose
Strong peppery, slightly alcoholic attack at the beginning of the nose - fades very quickly. This is followed by aromas of brown caramelised sugar, coconut, vanilla, sultanas, nutmeg, cinnamon, and the spicy oak. All the olfactory notes are very harmoniously interwoven. The bouquet is completed by dried banana chips with brown caramel. With more time in the glass, the alcoholic tinge reduces more and more.
Taste
Nice strong, full-bodied, creamy attack that has a delicious subtle sweetness with caramel and pickled sultanas. Coconut and vanilla with the banana chips from the nose and cinnamon show up after the sweet note. Pleasant spiciness from the oak barrels, light eucalyptus note. Alcohol is well integrated, nothing of pepper or ginger spiciness in the mouth.
Finish
Nice and warming, strong. The coconut, along with the oak and sultanas and nutmeg continue to be dominant. Slight bitter aspects towards the end with a slight dryness at the back of the palate. Medium to long finish.
Conclusion
Great Barbados rum. Delicious interplay of flavours in a perfect harmony. That's exactly how rum should taste. Can be drunk neat despite the strength of the barrel, but a few drops of water do not interfere. I know why Barbados, and Foursquare in particular, is one of my favourite rum nations and distilleries. I'm glad I still have a bottle of this dream nectar.
