Glenmorangie 19y

Der 10jährige "The Original" von Glenmorangie war einer der ersten Single Malts, die ich zu Beginn meiner Whiskyreise erstand. Umgehauen hat er mich damals wie heute nicht und eine weitere Flasche wird wohl nicht so bald in meinem Archiv landen. Dennoch ist der 10jährige die perfekte Basis um den Grundcharakter der Whiskies von Glenmorangie zu entdecken. Die besondere harmonische Mischung aus Vanille, Malzsüße und Kuchenteig-Geruch und -Geschmack, zusammen mit einer hellfruchtigen Komponente, erkenne ich bei sehr vielen Abfüllungen aus dieser Highland-Brennerei mit ihren sehr hohen Brennblasen oft wieder.
Darum war ich neugierig, ob ich dies auch bei diesem 19jährigen Vertreter, der ursprünglich für den Travel Retail gedacht war, finden würde.

Nase & Aussehen
Die Farbe ist ein helles Gold. Wirklich sehr viele ölige Schlieren, Legs zeigen sich am Glasrand und machen Appetit auf das Verriechen. Ja. Klassische Glenmorangie Nase. Viel Vanille, heller süßer Kuchenteig, der noch warm aus dem Backofen kommt. Die Verwandtschaft mit dem 10y The Original ist nicht zu verleugnen. Helle saftige reife Früchte - ein wahres Potpourri davon - wie Marillen, Pfirsich, grüne und gelbe Äpfel. Auch Aromen von Zucker- und Honigmelonen blitzen immer wieder deutlich hervor. Alles ist sehr harmonisch und gediegen. Die 43% Alkoholgehalt sind überhaupt nicht zu spüren, der Alkohol ist sehr gut eingebunden.

Geschmack
Vollmundiges, cremiges Mundgefühl. Was man in der Nase hatte, setzt sich nahtlos im Mund weiter. Er beginnt mit einer deutlichen karamellig süßen Vanillenote die tatkräftige Unterstützung der hellen Früchte bekommt. Etwas prickelnde Würze wie Ingwer und roter Pfeffer von den Fässern sowie Anklänge von Milchschokolade machen sich gegen Ende, Richtung Abgang bemerkbar. Es ist aber mehr ein angenehmer Kontrapunkt zur bisherigen Fruchtsüße und sorgt dadurch für einen geschmacklichen Ausgleich.

Abgang
Zum Finish hin werden die würzigen und leicht bitteren Geschmackskomponenten stärker. Die Milchschokolade aus dem Mund bekommt etwas mehr Kakaogehalt und wandelt sich zur dunklen Schokolade oder auch zum kleinen Espresso mit einem Hauch von Sahne (in Wien nennt man dies einen Einspänner, wenn die Sahne, das Schlagobers, steif geschlagen ist). Die Vanille ist ebenso, wie die Früchte weiterhin präsent. Der Abgang ist mittellang.

Fazit
Also das Glenmorangie Destilat und Bourbon- oder amerikanische Eichenfässer vertragen sich sehr gut. Hat mir schon der 18y Extreme Rare nicht schlecht gefallen, legt dieser nochmals eine Schippe drauf. Vor allem hinsichtlich dem Fruchtkorb in der Nase, der Ausgewogenheit und dem harmonischen Geschmack. Ein wirklich gut gemachter Bourbonfass gereifter Highlander. Ein perfekter Begleiter für einen warmen Sommerabend. Wenn er etwas günstiger als der aktuelle Preis von durchschnittlich € 120,- wäre - sagen wir mal um 20% - dann wäre er ein absoluter Kaufkandidat.

The 10-year-old "The Original" from Glenmorangie was one of the first single malts that I bought at the beginning of my whiskey journey. He has not blown me then as now and another bottle will probably not land so soon in my archive. Nevertheless, the 10-year-old is the perfect base to discover the basic character of the whiskies of Glenmorangie. The special harmonious blend of vanilla, malt sweetness and cake batter smell and taste, along with a light fruity component, I often recognize in very many bottlings from this Highland distillery with its very tall stills.
That's why I was curious to see if I would also find this in this 19 year old representative, originally intended for travel retail.

Nose & Appearance
The color is a light gold. Really a lot of oily streaks, lees showing at the edge of the glass and whetting the appetite for locking. Yes. Classic Glenmorangie nose. Lots of vanilla, bright sweet cake batter still warm from the oven. The kinship with the 10y The Original is undeniable. Bright juicy ripe fruits - a veritable potpourri of them - like apricots, peaches, green and yellow apples. Aromas of sugar melon and honeydew melon also flash clearly again and again. Everything is very harmonious and dignified. The 43% alcohol content is not felt at all, the alcohol is very well integrated.

Taste
Full-bodied, creamy mouthfeel. What you had in the nose continues seamlessly in the mouth. It starts with a distinct caramel sweet vanilla note that gets energetic support from the bright fruit. Some tingly spice like ginger and red pepper from the barrels as well as hints of milk chocolate make themselves known towards the end, towards the finish. However, it is more of a pleasant counterpoint to the previous fruit sweetness and thus provides a flavorful balance.

Finish
Towards the finish, the spicy and slightly bitter flavor components become stronger. The milk chocolate from the mouth gets a bit more cocoa content and turns into dark chocolate or even a small espresso with a touch of cream (in Vienna, this is called a Einspänner when the cream, whipped cream, is whipped stiff). The vanilla is still present, as is the fruit. The finish is medium long.

Conclusion
So the Glenmorangie distillate and bourbon or American oak barrels get along very well. If I already liked the 18y Extreme Rare not bad, this one puts again a notch on it. Especially with regard to the fruit basket in the nose, the balance and the harmonious taste. A really well made bourbon cask matured Highlander. A perfect companion for a warm summer evening. If it were a little cheaper than the current price of an average of € 120, - let's say by 20% - then it would be an absolute candidate for purchase.
