Whiskybase
Nach dem Springbank 10y ist der Hazelburn 13y 2004/2018 die zweite Abfüllung aus der Springbank Brennerei in Campbeltown. Im Gegensatz zu den Springbank Abfüllungen, die leicht rauchig sind, wird beim Hazelburn ohne Torfrauch gearbeitet. Ein weiterer Unterschied ist die Anzahl der Brennvorgänge. Bei Springbank wird zweieinhalb mal gebrannt, bei Hazelburn sogar dreimal destilliert. Der 13jährige Hazelburn reifte in Oloroso Sherry Fässern und wurde mit 47,4% Alkohol abgefüllt.
Nase & Aussehen
Dunkles Bernstein, Haselnussbraun zeigt dich im Glas zusammen mit zahlreiche langsam und ölig hinabgleitenden Tränen. Gleich eine volle dunkle Sherrynase. Backpflaumen, Leder und Tabak, Rosinen und geröstete Haselnüsse. In karamellisiertem Zucker eingelegte Cerealien. Daneben auch etwas Orangensaft mit etwas -schale. Ein wenig Schuhcreme, etwas leicht Schmutziges im Aroma. Auch wenn der Hazelburn rauchlos sein soll, im Hintergrund wabbelt immer eine kleine Spur davon mit. Umschließt leicht die anderen Gerüche und verbindet sie damit zu einem schönen homogenen Gesamtgefüge.
Nach dem ersten Schluck erscheinen rote Früchte mit einer fruchtigen Frische auf der Geruchsbühne.
Geschmack
Schönes öliges und vollmundiges Mundgefühl. Bleiben wir gleich beim Öl und zwar habe ich neben einer angenehmen Süße auch zarte Noten von etwas Maschinenöl. Als würde man neben einer Autowerkstatt stehen. Auch die Nüsse und die Sherrykomponenten wie Leder und Tabak sowie die dunklen Pflaumen und Rosinen aus der Nase sind am Gaumen intensiv vorhanden. Hinzu kommen dunkle Schokolade und Kaffee.

Abgang
Die Eiche meldet sich aromatisch gegen Ende im Mund, zusammen mit Tabakblättern und Earl Grey Tee. Adstringierend vorne beim Zahnfleisch. Leichte Mokkaaromen und Rauchassoziationen zum relativ langem Finish hin. Bleibt schön lange mit seinen etwas dreckigen maschinenöligen Noten im Mund liegen.
Fazit
Tolle volle, schwere Nase mit einem sehr gut eingebundenen Alkohol. Die positive Tendenz hält er auch weiter im Geschmack und Finish. Sehr schöner Malt. Mit den typischen Oloroso Sherry Aromen in Verbindung mit den Nüssen, Schokolade und dunklen Fruchtaromen mit nicht allzuviel Süße erinnert er mich durchaus an den Edradour 12y Caledonia. Und da ich den sehr mag, mag ich auch diese Abfüllung von Hazelburn. Leider sind, wie bei den anderen Flaschen von Springbank, die Preise in letzter Zeit stetig nach oben gegangen. Wer auf die typische Springbank-Note steht und auch auf satte Oloroso Armonen, kann hier bedenkenlos zugreifen - wenn es auch nicht günstig wird.

After the Springbank 10y, the Hazelburn 13y 2004/2018 is the second bottling from the Springbank distillery in Campbeltown. In contrast to the Springbank bottlings, which are slightly smoky, the Hazelburn is made without peat smoke. Another difference is the number of distillations. Springbank is distilled two and a half times, Hazelburn even three times. The 13-year-old Hazelburn was matured in Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled with 47.4% alcohol.
Nose & Appearance
Dark amber, hazelnut brown shows in the glass along with numerous slow and oily slipping tears. Immediately a full dark sherry nose. Prunes, leather and tobacco, sultanas and roasted hazelnuts. Cereals soaked in caramelised sugar. Next to that also some orange juice with a little -peel. A little shoe polish, something slightly dirty in the aroma. Even though the Hazelburn is supposed to be smokeless, there is always a little trace of it wafting along in the background. It lightly surrounds the other smells and thus combines them into a nice homogeneous overall structure.
After the first sip, red fruits with a fruity freshness appear on the olfactory stage.
Taste
Nice oily and full-bodied mouthfeel. Let's stay with the oil right away, and in addition to a pleasant sweetness, I also have delicate notes of some machine oil. Like standing next to a car repair shop. The nuts and the sherry components like leather and tobacco as well as the dark plums and sultanas from the nose are also intensely present on the palate. There is also dark chocolate and coffee.
Finish
The oak announces itself aromatically towards the end in the mouth, along with tobacco leaves and Earl Grey tea. Astringent at the front of the gums. Light mocha flavours and smoke associations towards the relatively long finish. Lingers nicely in the mouth for a long time with its somewhat dirty machine oily notes.
Conclusion
Great full, heavy nose with a very well integrated alcohol. The positive tendency continues in the taste and finish. Very nice malt. With the typical Oloroso sherry aromas in combination with the nuts, chocolate and dark fruit flavours with not too much sweetness, it reminds me of the Edradour 12y Caledonia. And since I like that very much, I also like this bottling from Hazelburn. Unfortunately, as with the other bottles from Springbank, the prices have been going up steadily lately. If you like the typical Springbank note and also rich Oloroso Armons, you can get this without hesitation - even if it won't be cheap.
