Wenn ich SingleMalts von Glenlivet im Glas hatte, dann waren sie immer in Trinkstärke bis rund 46% Alkohol - in Fassstärke jedoch noch nie. Dies hole ich nun mit der Signatory Vintage Abfüllung in der bekannten Glasdekanter-Serie aus dem Jahr 2006 mit einem Alter von 14 Jahren und einem Alkoholgehalt von 61,7% nach. Reifen durfte der Whisky die volle Zeit in einem 1st Fill Sherry Butt.
Aussehen
Dunkles Gold, dünner Film am Rand, sehr ölig im Glas, viele Tränen.
Nase
Gleich eine ordentliche Portion an Vanille begrüßt einen beim ersten Reinschnuppern. Auch viel Honigsüße zu Beginn die sich mit etwas Standzeit auch in Staubzucker wandelt. Zuerst grüne und gelbe reife Äpfel die sich mit mehr Luft und Sauerstoff zu Marillen, gelben Trauben und etwas Honigmelonen wandeln. Sehr feine interessante Fruchtaromen. Leichte Frische, wie zarte Mentholnote in der Nase - hier zeigen sich die doch hohen Prozente. Eigentlich eine sehr schöne Bourbon Nase. Vom 1st Fill Sherryeinfluss merke ich beim Geruch eher wenig bis nichts. Mit Wasser kommt die Frucht noch mehr zur Geltung. Auch die Vanille/Honignote steigert sich. Sehr schön!
Geschmack
Intensives süßes und cremiges Mundgefühl gleich vom Start weg. Sofort viel Fruchtnoten, vorrangig vor allem Melone und Marille. Der Alkohol schiebt schön an. Kräftiger Ingwer-, Pfeffereinfluss nach der Süße. Gute Balance der süßen und scharfen Bestandteile trotz der Alkoholpower. Mit Wasser wird es auch im Geschmack harmonischer, was die Alkoholstärke angeht. Die Süße geht zwar etwas zurück, es kommt etwas Eiche dazu. Die Fruchtigkeit ist weiterhin vorhanden.
Abgang
Süßes und fruchtiges Finish. Fasseinfluss mit schöner aromatischen Eiche. Etwas Bitter am Ende, aber eher so Richtung Traubenkerne, die man versehentlich durchbeißt als Espresso oder dunkle Schokolade mit hohem Kakaogehalt. Sehr schön lange im Abgang und die Frucht bleibt und bleibt.
Fazit
Kurzum. Der ist lecker. Auch wenn für mich ein wenig Etikettenschwindel dabei ist, da ich persönlich vom Sherryfass nicht viel bemerkt habe. Aber er schmeckt sehr gut. Trotz der über 61% ist er auch pur noch gut trinkbar. Eine schöne Bourbonfass-gleiche Nase mit deutlichem Fruchteinfluss und Süße. Ich finde die Abfüllung sehr gelungen. Es gibt sie auch noch um knapp € 119,- zu kaufen.

When I have had Glenlivets in the glass, they have always been at drinking strength up to around 46% alcohol - but never at cask strength. I am now making up for this with the Signatory Vintage bottling in the well-known glass decanter series from 2006 with an age of 14 years and an alcohol content of 61.7%. The whisky was allowed to mature for the full time in a 1st fill sherry butt.
Appearance
Dark gold, thin film at the rim, very oily in the glass, many tears.
Nose
A good portion of vanilla greets you at first sniff. Also a lot of honey sweetness at the beginning which turns into icing sugar after a while. At first green and yellow ripe apples which turn into apricots, yellow grapes and some honeydew melons with more air and oxygen. Very fine interesting fruit aromas. Slight freshness, like a delicate menthol note in the nose - here the high percentages show. Actually a very nice bourbon nose. I notice little to nothing of the 1st fill sherry influence on the nose. With water, the fruit comes even more into its own. The vanilla/honey note also increases. Very nice!

Taste
Intensely sweet and creamy mouthfeel right from the start. Immediately lots of fruit notes, primarily melon and apricot. The alcohol pushes nicely. Strong ginger, pepper influence after the sweetness. Good balance of sweet and spicy components despite the alcohol power. With water, the taste also becomes more harmonious in terms of alcohol strength. Although the sweetness recedes a little, some oak comes in. The fruitiness is still there.
Finish
Sweet and fruity finish. Barrel influence with nice aromatic oak. Some bitterness at the end, but more along the lines of grape seeds you accidentally bite through than espresso or dark chocolate with high cocoa content. Very nice long finish and the fruit lingers and lingers.
Conclusion
In a nutshell. This one is delicious. Even if for me there's a bit of fraud in the labelling, as I personally didn't notice much of the sherry cask. But it tastes very good. Despite the 61%, it is still easy to drink neat. A nice bourbon cask-like nose with a clear fruit influence and sweetness. I think the bottling is very successful. It is still available for just under € 119.-.
