Adieu 2022
Das neue Jahr ist bereits zwei Tage alt. Der Jahreswechsel ging smooth und locker beschwingt über die Bühne. Ein kleiner Blick zurück ins alte Jahr ist hoffentlich noch erlaubt.
Und dieser Blick zurück auf das Whisky-Hobby-Jahr 2022 fällt durchaus positiv aus. So konnte ich nicht nur alte Bekanntschaften - also vor allem bei schottischen Brennereien und deren Standard Ranges - weiter vertiefen, sondern auch zahlreiche für mich neue Single Malts und deren Brennereien - hier vor allem auch im internationalen Umfeld - kennenlernen.
Meine beiden Langzeit-Vorsätze - Vertiefung meines Wissens bei den Core-Ranges der schottischen Brennereien sowie immer ein Augenmerk auch auf die internationale Whisky-Szene zu haben - konnte ich auch 2022 weiterverfolgen.
So habe ich jeden Monat auch 2022 einen Nicht-Schotten auf meiner Blogbühne präsentiert. Neben USA, Irland und Taiwan sind auch Single Malts aus Japan, Australien, Dänemark, Finnland, Österreich und auch Deutschland wieder oder erstmals in meinem Glas gelandet.
Darüber hinaus sind im abgelaufenen Jahr deutlich mehr Single Malts aus Islay und Campbeltown in meiner Notes-Sammlung hinzugekommen. Da war schon eine Tendenz bemerkbar. Wobei ich außer zwei Kilkerran Abfüllungen und einer Anbruchflasche vom 13y Hazelburn keine Campbeltown-Flasche zuhause habe. Die momentante Preisspirale - vor allem bei Springbank - möchte ich nicht mittragen.
Anders verhält es sich bei Islay. Hier sind doch einige rauchige Abfüllungen im letzten Jahr in meinen Regalen gelandet. Und geht man nur von den im letzten Halbjahr '22 erworbenen Flaschen aus, habe ich offensichtlich eine Lieblingsbrennerei gefunden. Laphroaig. Lange habe ich keine Abfüllung von dieser Distillery im Glas gehabt - jetzt haben sie mich abgeholt.
Darüber hinaus habe ich mit Daftmill dieses Jahr auch die Lowlands-Rubrik gleich mit einem Hammer-Malt eröffnet.

Und damit kommen wir auch gleich zu meinen Plänen und Überlegungen für 2023. Nach dem Daftmill 2006 15y Tasting ist mein Interesse an den Lowlands geweckt worden. Da gibt es neben Auchentochan durchaus auch andere interessante Destilleries, die sich lohnen erforscht zu werden.
Auch im neuen Jahr werde ich mich weiterhin verstärkt den Standard-Abfüllungen der Schotten widmen. Da gibt es noch immer viel zu entdecken. So habe ich mich in den letzten Wochen auch mit ein paar interessanten Samples aus Islay, Campbeltown, Highlands und den Inseln eingedeckt.
International werde ich neben den USA und Irland auch versuchen, mich wieder mehr mit Japan zu beschäftigen. Aber auch der eine und andere weiße Fleck auf der Whisky-Weltkarte möchte ich dieses Jahr wieder auflösen und neue Länder entdecken.
Ansonsten möchte ich gar nicht so viel vorplanen. Das letzte Jahr hat gezeigt, dass das Hobby im Flow ist, man plant eine bestimmte Abfüllung zu testen und schwupps, kommt ein neues höchst interessantes Sample mit der Post oder eine andere plötzliche Eingebung sorgt für ein spontanes Umwerfen der Pläne. Darum - dort wo mich meine Nase hinführt, dort wird verrochen und verkostet.
Ich bin gespannt, was mich 2023 whiskytechnisch erwarten wird!

Goodbye 2022
The new year is already two days old. The turn of the year went smoothly and in a relaxed and upbeat manner. Hopefully, we are still allowed to take a look back at the old year.
And this look back at the whisky hobby year 2022 is quite positive. I was not only able to deepen old acquaintances - especially with Scottish distilleries and their standard ranges - but also to get to know numerous single malts and their distilleries that are new to me - especially in an international context.
My two long-term intentions - to deepen my knowledge of the core ranges of the Scottish distilleries and to always keep an eye on the international whisky scene - I was also able to pursue in 2022.
So every month in 2022, I presented a non-Scotsman on my blog stage. In addition to the USA, Ireland and Taiwan, single malts from Japan, Australia, Denmark, Finland, Austria and also Germany have landed in my glass again or for the first time.
In addition, more single malts from Islay and Campbeltown were added to my Notes collection in the past year. There was already a noticeable trend. Apart from two Kilkerran bottlings and an opened bottle of 13y Hazelburn, I don't have a Campbeltown bottle at home. I don't want to go along with the current price spiral - especially with Springbank.
The situation is different with Islay. Some smoky bottlings landed on my shelves last year. And judging only from the bottles purchased in the last six months of '22, I've obviously found a favourite distillery. Laphroaig. It's been a long time since I've had a bottling from this distillery in my glass - now they've picked me up.
Moreover, with Daftmill I also opened the Lowlands section right away this year with a Hammer Malt.

And this brings us to my plans and thoughts for 2023. After the Daftmill 2006 15y tasting, my interest in the Lowlands has been awakened. There are other interesting distilleries besides Auchentochan that are worth exploring.
In the new year, I will continue to devote more time to the standard bottlings of the Scots. There is still a lot to discover. In the last few weeks, I have also stocked up on some interesting samples from Islay, Campbeltown, the Highlands and the Islands.
Internationally, in addition to the USA and Ireland, I will also try to get more involved with Japan again. But I'd also like to fill in one or two blank spots on the whisky world map this year and discover new countries.
Apart from that, I don't want to plan too much in advance. The last year has shown that the hobby is in flow, you plan to test a certain bottling and suddenly a new, highly interesting sample arrives in the post or some other sudden inspiration causes you to spontaneously change your plans. That's why - wherever my nose takes me, that's where I go to taste.
I'm curious to see what's in store for me whisky-wise in 2023!
