Einige Whiskys sind 2022 wieder in meinem Tastingglas gelandet. Flops, also Whiskys die absolut grauslich schmeckten, waren Gottseidank keine darunter. Manche waren grundsolide, viele gut bis sehr gut.
Aber ein paar waren darunter, die waren hervorragend. Sie zeigten mir, warum ich Singles Malts liebe und dieses Hobby so sehr schätze. Und immer wieder verblüfft bin, wie man aus Wasser, Hefe, Getreide und Holz solche Göttertränke herstellen kann.
Die sechs Malts, die mir dieses Jahr besonders in Erinnerung geblieben sind, habe ich unten stehend ohne ein echtes Ranking aufgezählt.

Some whiskies ended up in my tasting glass again in 2022. Flops, i.e. whiskies that tasted absolutely awful, were thankfully not among them. Some were rock solid, many good to very good.
But there were a few that were excellent. They showed me why I love single malts and appreciate this hobby so much. And I am always amazed at how you can make such drinks of the gods from water, yeast, grain and wood.
I have listed the six malts that have particularly stayed in my memory this year below, without any real ranking.

Tasting Notes
Jim Murray hat diesem Whisky 2012 den Titel „World Whisky of the Year“ gegeben. Und ich kann Mr. Murray nur ausnahmslos zustimmen. Eine absolute Aromenbombe. Wer intensive Sherrymalts liebt, der ist hier an der richtigen Stelle.

Schon viel von dieser kleinen Brennerei in den Lowlands gehört. Ein regelrechter Hype entsteht jedes Mal, wenn eine neue Abfüllung auf den Markt kommt. Bislang immer skeptisch gegenüber gehypten Marken und Flaschen, bin ich dieses Mal froh, der Neugierde nachgegeben zu haben. Was für eine Aromenfracht von den Bourbonfässern, die hier transportiert werden. Diese Abfüllung hat meine Lust an den Lowlands geweckt.

I have heard a lot about this small distillery in the Lowlands. There is a lot of hype every time a new bottling comes on the market. So far always sceptical about hyped brands and bottles, this time I am glad to have given in to curiosity. What a load of aromas from the bourbon casks being carried here. This bottling has awakened my desire for the Lowlands.

Anlässlich eines Geschmacksexperiments in meinem Stamm-Whiskyforum Anfang des Jahres war unter anderem auch ein Blindsample vom Cask Strength Batch 1 dabei. So ein toller Sherry Single Malt aus dem Hause Glendronach. Er hat sogar den Allardice in meiner Rangliste verdrängt. Er hat alles, was man sich von einem Sherry Whisky erwartet, getrocknete dunkle Früchte, Rosinen, Leder- Tabakassoziationen, Schokolade, Nüsse und alles wird von einer schönen Eichenfracht getragen.

On the occasion of a taste experiment in my regular whisky forum at the beginning of the year, a blind sample of Cask Strength Batch 1 was also included. Such a great sherry single malt from Glendronach. It even displaced the Allardice in my ranking. It has everything you would expect from a sherry whisky, dried dark fruits, sultanas, leather-tobacco associations, chocolate, nuts and everything is carried by a nice oak freight.

Die Brennerei aus der Speyside hat sich zu einer meiner Lieblingsdestillen gemausert. Bisher hat mich noch keine Abfüllung von dort enttäuscht. Und der 24jährige aus dem Bourbonhogshead hat damit auch nicht angefangen. Eine toller gediegener Sommerwhisky aus dem Hogshead. Da passt alles.

The distillery from Speyside has become one of my favourite distilleries. So far, no bottling from there has disappointed me. And the 24-year-old from the bourbon hogshead didn't start there either. A great, solid summer whisky from the hogshead. Everything fits.

Mein dienstältester Whisky ever im Glas und auch mein erster aus den 1970igern. Vollreifung im Sherryfass in Fassstärke. Was soll ich sagen? Ein Genuss diesen Old-Bottle-Style zu erleben. Kein Stress beim Transport der Aromen, er braucht Zeit und im Glas und ungeteilte Aufmerksamkeit. Ein Erlebnis.

My oldest whisky ever in the glass and also my first from the 1970s. Fully matured in sherry casks at cask strength. What can I say? It's a pleasure to experience this old-bottle style. No stress in transporting the aromas, it needs time and in the glass and undivided attention. An experience.

Für mich eine der besten Ü20 OAs Abfüllungen die es gibt. Ich hatte zwei Samples über die Jahre vom 23jährigen und jedes Mal hat mich dieser Malt begeistert. Die Nase ist zum Niederknien. Ein Traum. Die Vielzahl an Fruchtaromen und das harmonische Ganze. Toll.

For me, one of the best over-20 OA bottlings there is. I've had two samples of the 23-year-old over the years and each time I've been blown away by this malt. The nose is to die for. A dream. The multitude of fruit aromas and the harmonious whole. Great.
