Quick-Notes: Don Q Signature Release Single Barrel 2009

 
Der Single Barrel 2009 mit etwas mehr als 49% Alkoholgehalt ist mein erster Rum aus Puerto Rico, mein erster Rum von Don Q. Der Rum lagerte bis zu seiner Abfüllung 2019 in getoasteten American Oak Barrels und wurde in limitierte Stückzahl abgefüllt. Der Markenname Don Q ist nach der berühmten Figur des Don Quijote benannt. 

Farbe
Bernstein

Nase
Feine Nase nach Vanille, Ananas und Kokosnussraspeln. Ein paar Cerealien gesellen sich dazu. Etwas Eichenholz im Hintergrund.

Geschmack
Süßer Antritt. Vanille sofort präsent. Dann die Ananas aus der Nase mit Rosinen. Es folgt eine schöne Würzigkeit mit Zimt und leichtem roten Pfeffer.

Abgang
Trocken werdend, leicht adstringierend. Die Eiche mit ein wenig Bitterkeit, die Haut der Kokosnuss unterhalb der harten Schale, wird zum Ende hin prägnanter. Wärmend und mittellang.

Fazit
Ein sehr angenehmer Rum aus Puerto Rico. Wunderbare feine, nicht aufdringliche Nase mit Vanille und Obst. Die Aromen vom Eichenfass sind die gesamte Zeit präsent und bilden eine schöne geschmackliche Klammer um die anderen Aromen.
Don Q ist sicherlich einen weiteren Blick wert!

The Single Barrel 2009 with just over 49% alcohol content is my first rum from Puerto Rico, my first rum from Don Q. The rum was stored in toasted American Oak barrels until its bottling in 2019 and was bottled in limited quantities. The brand name Don Q is named after the famous character of Don Quixote. 

Colour
Amber

Nose
Fine nose of vanilla, pineapple and coconut shavings. A few cereals join in. Some oak in the background.

Taste
Sweet start. Vanilla immediately present. Then the pineapple from the nose with sultanas. A nice spiciness follows with cinnamon and light red pepper.

Finish
Drying out, slightly astringent. The oak with a little bitterness, the skin of the coconut underneath the hard shell, becomes more concise towards the end. Warming and medium long.

Conclusion
A very pleasant rum from Puerto Rico. Wonderful fine, not intrusive nose with vanilla and fruit. The flavours from the oak barrel are present the entire time and form a nice flavour bracket around the other flavours.

Don Q is certainly worth another look!
